Son returns from the war to his parents dead?

this was a 60's - 70's horror movie that I remember watching on the old "Elvira Mistress of the Dark" movie show.  the movie is about a couples son that returns from the war I think after being presumed dead.  the mother is happy to see him back but his father doesn't get along well with him.  there's something about his eyes because he always wears dark sunglasses.  towards the end of the movie a neighborhood kid was celebrating their birthday and accidentally removes the son's glasses.  in shock of seeing his eyes the little girl screams.  the parents run out  and right away feel that the son is a freak or something like that because the little girl tells them about his decaying face or hands.  I forget exactly how that part plays out.  from there though the neighborhood starts haunting him down.  the son runs away and heads to the cemetary and starts digging up a grave.  the parents at first try to stop him but eventually figure out that their son is dead and help him bury himself.  and that's how the movie ends.
