Movie from the 1980's; it's a story about a teenage girl coming of age in in the 19th century

This movie is set sometime in the 1800's.  Basically, it's about an upper class family, but the main character is a 14-15 year old girl.  I don't remember much.  There's only a few scenes that stick out to me.  At some point, the young girl falls in love with a teacher, perhaps her music teacher, who is a man in his 30's.  i know she runs away from home and decides to move in with him.  Shortly after arriving at his house, she breaks his bed, and the teacher says something along the lines of, "of course I must have feelings for you.  Otherwise I would've beaten you for breaking my bed."  They do have a physical relationship, but it doesn't last long.

The only other part that I recall is the girl is in a bath, and an older lady comes in and makes her stand up to see how much of a woman she has become or something.
