80's or 90's time travel or dimensional travel involving young male protagonist?

The best i can come up with are select scenes from this movie. One scene involves two kids in a desert or something similar walking towards a well, one asks the other what's for dinner and the other answers cheeseburgers. Another scene involves the young boy trying to make a simple girl understand what movies are with a flip book, she believes it's magic he said no that's movies. The way the boy travels through time/dimension is by finding a wall that moves like water or jello, and if he doesn't get through to the next portal before it closes he would be trapped there forever. Btw i think the boy is an orphan and is offered his parents at the end by the antagonist, or he gets a chance to save the universe or something like that. I hope that someone can decipher these scenes I'll help however i can.

The movie you describe sounds just like Time Bandits.

It's definitely this one! At the end of the YouTube trailer is a scene with him and the little girl in which he mentions cheeseburgers and she is puzzled. You'll also see the time portals.

"Timemaster" (1995)
