Black and white movie about a man whose wife was killed in a car accident while he was driving and he has a string of bad luck a year after her death. The house burns down, the dog dies of poisoning and the horse breaks it's leg.

Someone in the movie (the townsfolk maybe..?) says he's doing it all to himself in some unconcious state out of guilt for killing his wife.

The movie is in black/brown and white and with sound.

How old is the movie? Is it american?
I am not sure if it is american, it looked that way though. I'm assuming it was made between 1920-1950. It was pretty old. I watched it late at night and the program didn't say what it was called. It was just titled "Old Movies" or something of the sort. The graphics were pretty dodgy, it was hard to tell what was happening in some parts.

It's called "The Second Woman"(1950) with Robert Young.
