European independent film that opens with extremely long driving scene

Hi everyone, this is a real long shot because I don't think this is a well known movie. I believe it's French, and I know the director is male, and relatively young-- it may have been his first feature, but I'm believe he went on to make a higher budget film after this. The movie has quite a simple title and I believe it was made somewhere around 2005-2010. I suppose you would call it a minimalist horror movie.

The movie opens with an extraordinarily long driving sequence, showing the outside of a car as it drives in forested/mountainous roads as the sun sets, so the main things you see are the car's lights and the shapes of trees and the road. There is no voiceover but I think there is a kind of ambient, almost droning soundtrack. These scenes go on for what I want to say is 20 or so minutes-- at any rate, far far longer than the conventional demands of narrative would require. It's very beautifully shot but whether because it's hypnotic or so dark, it's quite unsettling. I know that it turns out the driver is a murderer, but I'm going crazy because I can't remember what happens after this, except I believe the driver stops and goes to a bar-- maybe I was literally hypnotised by this point. I know this isn't much to go off but the opening driving sequence is so unusual I'm hoping it's stuck in someone's mind. Thanks so much in advance.

Against all odds I found it by trawling with a very wide net on IMDB-- turns out I was way off about the year, it was made in 1998.

The film is Somber by Philippe Grandrieux
