2014/2015 Southern/Midwestern Gothic Noir-ish Thriller

I'm not sure if I saw this film in 2014 or 2015. It is a neo-noir American gothic film. I remember at the open of the film, a family is being stalked by a newly-released convict. At one point in the film, the realize he's been hiding in their attic. Later in the film, it turns out he's not the danger, but his son is (who is some kind of crime boss?). The end of the film is the convict shooting his own son. It was suspenseful and had some dark humor in it.
