William H. Macy (he plays the guy) is in prison and has a flashback about a girl, then we see him kissing his cellmate in the next scene

I think it's "Edmond (2005)", but I ask in case it isn't (haven't seen it yet)

Yes, this was indeed the movie, and I will watch Boogie Nights, but a great actor? You gotta be kidding!
Thank you.  William H Macy is basically an acquired taste.  There are some great performances in Boogie Nights by Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, Don Cheadle and Mark Wahlberg but Macy's role as Little Bill is brilliant! I hope you enjoy the movie.
