Sinatra type movie where couple crash lands on island, tie a rope to each other to stay together

I don't have a lot of details, as I didn't see this movie myself but trying to surprise someone that did.  It is one of those old American classics with a Frank Sinatra type as the lead, but not sure if he is the actor.  Believe the male lead is of lower station and some sort of pilot.  The female lead is from a wealthier background and important family.  The male lead is flying them somewhere but there is a storm that blows them off course and causes them to crash land on an uncharted island.  The male lead ties a rope around each of them so that they can have some space and do their own things because they don't really get along.  He tells the female lead to tug on the rope if she ever needs help.  It turns out that he ends up being the one in trouble and falls into some sort of quicksand or pit.  The woman is off someplace else but, by this point they have slowly grown closer and, she senses something is off and goes looking for him.  She reaches him in time and there is an awkward moment where they look at each other and realize they have fallen in love.
