Anime from 1990s? Maybe 1980s?

Anime movie I saw as a teenager in the 1990s when the Sci-Fi channel used to show Anime Saturday mornings.  All I remember it the first scene when a teen/man in a bio-suit facing an army of robots to defend a city alone; setting is post-apocalyptical future.  The 1st robot he kills he punches his fist through the chest out the back like it was paper.  Then he alone destroys the rest of the army.  Seems like he is the usual defender of the city.

Was it M.D. Geist? It had robot armor and a post-apocalyptic setting, but I do not remember specific scenes.
No, not MD Geist.  That suit is more like medieval armor and what I remember, it was skin tight; maybe not even a bio-suit.  Thanks though.
Yes, I have SciFi list also and going slowly thru them.  So far Casshan (Casshern) is the closest but I do not remember a 70's collar or a robot dog.
I searched online and found something similar to what you are looking for. Here is the link.

I hope this helps. This is the 1974 version, but there is a more modern version called Casshan Sins.
After actually watching something other than Casshan from the 70's, You are correct.  Casshern Robot Hunter and Casshern Sins definitely hit the target.  Still don't remember the dog (Friender?!) but it was a long time ago.  Thank you and thank you everyone else!
