Girl lives in a town not knowing of the outside world

It's about a young girl who lives in a town living in the old times She doesn't know that they are being observed by the outside world. Somehow she finds out and escapes. I think she does it because I think her sister  and others were dying of some illness. She manages to escape to the outside world and gets reporters. One of the reporters ask hers to prove  herself and so she starts to recite the presidents which was what they were know for. While reciting she faints and wakes up in a hospital. She finds out her sister is fine and the others. Also she mentions about how her sister likes blush because now she doesn't have to pinch her cheeks to get color on them.  Probably like middle school reading level.
