The movie where the detiective recognizes the criminal many years later.

I only saw the trailer for it on some DVD I was watching.  The film may not even be out yet.  Anyway, it has a female lead (who plays a detective or cop, I think) and some guy does something horrible to her or her family.   Anyway, many years pass and she eventually finds the guy.  I remember seeing an older black actor (whom I believe was an old acquaintance of the female lead) trying to talk her out of "going down this road".  Any help on this would be appreciated!
