An old movie, set in USA town about a skinny, blonde café waitress

It starts with a scene of this woman lying on the street, pretending to be dead and she almost gets run over by a car. She is horribly skinny, about 25 years old, has huge eyes and long blonde hair which look as if she has extensions. It then continues to show her everyday life: she works as a waitress in a typicall american café. She has a lover named George (i think) who works in a theathre/music industry - he looks a bit like Woody Allen, grey (almost white) hair with glasses, a bit nerdy. She is in love with him but he does not care about her very much as he is allready married, but keeps her around with a promise that he will divorce anytime now (but off course he doesn't). This girl also has a female friend who works at a veterinary hospital; she is the one that she discusses all her problems with.
The woman lives in her own apartment in what seems like NYC, she owns a mouse and likes to get drunk in the evenings after the shower. She also has this ritual that consists of taking off her shower towel on the balcony and throwing it onto the the streets underneath - she is pretending to have an auction for it. She also has some problems with her mother, which shows in the phonecalls she makes with her.
I don't remember how the story develops, neither do I remember the names of actors or the movie itself.

Maybe "Waitress"?

Jenna is a pregnant, unhappily married waitress in the deep south. She meets a newcomer to her town and falls into an unlikely relationship as a last attempt at happiness.
