What is that movie about a boy and a unicorn soft toys?

My mother been asking me for the past 10 years to look for this particular movie which she had watched when I was still a kid. The timeline of the movie should be around 1980-1990 I guess. Since I've already born at that time when she watch it on the local TV which she also mention around the time when I was so excited watching 'Excalibur'.

The story revolves around this little boy who lost his father. Not sure how the father died, she said might've fallen from the tree. And the boy lives with the mother. The mother always tells story to him and he had this unicorn toys or something about this unicorn toys or soft toys. The movie was shot in full-color. I'll update the question from time to time whenever I found a new clue from her. Although she keep on insisting that the title was 'Sentimental Journey' I couldn't find any film with that particular title that match her description. I've been trying keywords such as 'unicorn toys movie' etc etc and I'm hitting a dead end here.

It was fully animated? In english?
It's not an animated film. And yes it's in English. She said that the settings is in modern era (of the 80's I guess)
In this "sentimental journey" they went looking for a unicorn in a pet store...
Thank you so much for the respond! I managed to find the movie from your reply, it's actually a remake of the original film which I assumed not related at all. The remade film base on the original were done in 1984 aired on CBS. If only there are a lot more hits on TV Movie I won't be acting this kind of trouble. Thanks again for the info!
Glad that helped. I had no idea a remake was made. Good find. Enjoy.
