looking for a 1930's-50's murder mystery involving a boathouse

I'm looking for movie that I think was made between the 30's and 50's. It starts at a flash party at a house in the water where a couple leave in a boat for a house that has a boathouse. There's a murder in the boathouse it in the house where the boathouse is. I think there's an affair somewhere in there too. I also remember an alibi relating to a cafe and something to do with a clock relating to the alibi??

Thanks in advance for any ideas....

Maybe "The Unholy Four" aka "The Stranger Came Home"(1954)

Thanks Sandy,

This movie looks interesting but unfortunately it's not the one.

I think the one I'm looking for might be earlier than the 50's but gave that range just in case.

I'm pretty sure the murder takes place at the time the movie is set....after they leave the party in the boat.

For some reason I'm thinking there was a pretty big name in it....Bogart maybe or someone of that level at the time. I've looked through his movies on IMDB and can't see it as one of his but I really can't remember much else so it's hard to say.

Thanks for your reply
Hi Sandy,

I finally found the movie I was looking for! It’s called After Office Hours (1935) with Constance Bennett and Clark Gable.

I was mistaken in thinking that the party and boathouse scene are at the start of the movie....they’re about halfway through. The only place I can find to watch online is here...

but I’m ordering a copy from Amazon.

Thanks for your original reply and sorry for the mislead on the sequence of events.
Great job! Thanks for letting me know, I'm definitely going to watch it!
