movie about boy who is transported into another world. He has a fruit tree growing behind glass in bedroom

film came out in the late 80s or early 90s and may have even been a TV movie but I’m not certain. From what I can remember the film is about a dark haired boy who maybe about 10 or 12 (not certain though) and wears a baseball cap. Not sure of the significance of the hat but in his bedroom there was a whole heap on the wall. There may even be a girl as one of the main characters too, but I can only really remember the boy. Something happens and he ends up passing through a glass barrier into another world where he is stuck. In this world is a large fruit tree; it could be a peach, orange or mandarin tree which he uses to get home. The fruit are like large orange-peachy foam balls. The portal might even be attached to the mirror on his wardrobe but I’m not certain. I do know he can see inside to his bedroom when he is by the tree. That is all I can remember of the film sorry it’s not much to go on. Do you have any ideas.

The film is a bit like the hugga bunch movie and magic in the mirror but its not them. Other people have suggested james and the giant peach, mio in the land of faraway, the magic of the faraway tree but its not them. The film is live action but I couldn’t be certain there is not animated parts or characters in it. The other characters might even be a bit like puppets but again I’m not sure.

I am starting to think this could be a foreign was in english? Could it be a tv episode? Maybe from earlier/later years? It was made for kids? I have searched hard and still come up empty. You are sure there is a tree and not a vine or stalk?

Edit: Magic Island?
Hi thanks for the reply. Yes the film was in English. As for the years I took a guess as I saw it when I was a kid during the late 90s. It's not magic island but that was a good guess. I'm fairly sure it was a tree but again I was little when I saw it. Sorry about the vague description but I can really only remember a few things from it. I know it's a hard one to find hence the reason it's driving me crazy. Thank you so much for trying it's greatly appreciated
