Action - Fired agent/soldier who gets a janitor job back at the agency; redeems himself.

I remember watching this hollwood movie as a child (I'm 21 now) and I was impressed, so:

In the prologue like section of the movie our protagonist is this cocky, young, skilled, white skinned agent with dark hair (probably a FBI or CIA agent -- a government agency with uniforms as I remember) makes a mistake/rushes things (during a heist? not sure - and maybe it was his friend who makes this mistake) and something bad happens (maybe some hostages get killed and/or his colleagues die but I'm not sure about this) and he gets fired by a superior in his office of course (Also his friend(s) may get fired alongside him -- and maybe the antagonist holds a grudge?). So he gets a job as a janitor back at the agency.

The scene I remember takes place some time after (not sure maybe years or even a decade after the lay off) he gets the janitor job.

So, he's being mocked by a group of cocky recruits and since he was an excellent agent he demonstrates his skill and they're either impressed or mortified/embarrassed and the only guy who remembers him being a part of the agency also observes this occasion. He was an old white man, I'm not sure what his job was.

In the end (if this movie is the one with the protagonist's colleague/friend is antagonist) protagonist and the antagonist may have a showdown and antagonist is either killed or brought to justice by the protagonist.

Also both the protagonist and the old man are high profile actors.

Sorry for the block of text but I've been looking for this movie for a while. I tried to make it readable with the over-abundant use bold and italic characters even though it is ill-advised. Underlined the parts I remember most vividly and of course the italics are my notes. I was born in 1996 and watched this movie on TV so maybe a year after it came out? Which would put the release window around 2000 ~ 2006 or even 2007.

Thanks in advance. Have a nice day.

Maybe in here under live action movie or tv sections?
Thanks for the answer and also I'm positive it was an action movie, not a tv show. And I went through the live action movie section one by one but nope none of those movies are a match. Also he doesn't quite fit the bill anyway.
Protagonist isn't an underdog and he isn't "near the bottom of the scale in terms of rank" and also not "at the top in terms of what he can actually accomplish".
He certainly borrows some personality traits from the almighty janitor but he is absolutely not one.
Again thank you.
Detonator kind of seems possible, but he was not a janitor... are you 100% on the janitor?

If not this, could Michael Dudikoff be the actor?
It does seem possible but the protagonist doesn't get fired because of his mistake.
And no I'm not sure about the job. I also went through all of Michael Dudikoff's movies and no luck there.

But still I have good news. I have found the movie! It is:
S.W.A.T. (2003)

And frankly I found it thanks to you. Let me explain (Btw you can skip this paragraph since it is just backstory): So after doing eveything I mentioned above I was frustrated, after all I've been looking for this movie for years. I've been forgetting about it then remembering thus ensuing days of frustration and I give up only to remember it after a while. Then the cycle repeats...
But not this time. This time before closing all the tabs I took a last look at the link you provided and and I begun thinking and thought about SWAT teams which I thought the my movie might be about but it seemed far fetched but then again I didn't know for sure so I googled "swat officer fired after mistake" and this movie was the only result. I checked the movie and the scene I was talking about takes place at the 20 minute mark and, oh boy, did I remember some things wrong and so I misinformed you.
But remember I watched the movie in 2004.

In any case your answers combined led me to the movie I was looking for since 2006.
First answer made me think of SWAT teams and the link you provided in the 2nd answer made something in my mind click so I thought of and made the search.

Thanks for your time and efforts. I mean it. You brought years of frustration to a satisfying end.

Edit: I'm new so maybe I'm missing something but there is no star next to your comment so I can't pick your answer as the best one. What do I do?
Oh. Is it because you commented instead of answering? If so can you answer so I could pick your answer as the best?
Hi, I am so glad you found it. Since you got the answer, and I did not, you can click answer and put it in there, then the star should be visible. I am glad to have helped somewhat, I just don't want to take your points. That was a hard question. Have a good day.
Hey, thanks man. And yes, technically you may not have said the name of the movie but I would not be able to find it without your help. After all you gave me a push in the right direction and I learned interesting stuff during this info exchange. And I'm not exaggerating because I was not able to find it until now. Given the misinformation my question contained (in my defense remembering thing is really hard) I think you deserve credit.
Have a nice day.
I like this site.
