I have been searching for this movie for ever its aHorror fantasy movie about not going outside the house

I can only remember that there are shadows outside the house and that the movie character escapes in the kitchen where he gets into the dumbwaiter and goes back to his dimension. There is also a scene in which a monster is near a car in the dark. Its a movie that came after the year 2005

I think it may be "The sixth sense".

Also this article points out several things that sound like your description:
Its not that I believe its a newer movie.
"Left in darkness" ends in a dumbwaiter to heaven.

"Spiderwick chronicles"
No none of those are the right one. Although Spiderwick chronicles looks really good.
