Horror film where VHS tape wraps around a man and (possibly) kills him

This film, if my memory serves me, has a scene with a VHS tape that unspools and wraps itself around a man to kill him. It could have been made in the 70s or 80s and was obviously a horror movie. It most likely was one where the killer was some sort of entity or ghost with the power to do that.
