Title of a drama film from the 80's.

PLOT: Father becomes a widow and thus hires a nanny to take care of his three sons. She is irresponsible and is fired from the father for inappropriate behavior. She accuses the father of certain crimes with social services whom then take custody away from him. They disperse the three sons to different areas. They all end up in either mental institutions or boys town facilities. They lead different and separate lives away from their father who spends the entire movie looking for them.
Set in the 20's.

It's four sons, but otherwise I'd say that's "After the Promise"
