Movie with a 1920s Setting

This movie is a series (it could have been after a TV show, I don't know) and was set around a little girl in the early 1900s.  The series starts off with her as a young girl, going to school at this school house and she's kind of rebellious, I guess.  But not so much. When she grows up, she goes to college and becomes a teacher for a little while.  I remember a scene where she and a few little girls are climbing out of a window using a white bed sheet.  After she becomes a teacher, she gets married and becomes a journalist or maybe it was a novelist.  Her husband goes off to war, and that's really all I can remember from it!

I am not going to be very good at this one, but I am willing to help. Are you saying it is a movie series, like a jesse stone where it is the character again and again, or more like sequels? Are we sure it was a movie and not a tv series? Was it in color or bw? Can you remember the town, any names of characters or actors, etc.?

My guess would be the "Anne of Green Gables" miniseries:

1) Anne of Green Gables (1985 TV miniseries)

2) Anne of Avonlea (1987 TV miniseries)

3) Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story (2000 TV miniseries)

These are followed by:
Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning (2008 TV movie)
