What is the name of the movie with the autistic boy whos father died?

Basically all i remember is that there is a scene where they are playing Go Fish and some conflict rises and the mentally challenged boy/man gets angry, flips the table, and runs near a lake that has a tree with initials carved into a heart. the initials end up being his and his fathers. I might be wrong but i believe the boy/man dies in the end.

PS i have been looking for this movie for years and it sparked my love for the disabled, it would really help me out if anyone has any idea what im talking about.
