The journalist goes at this retired sportsman's ( I don't remember his sport.) home, who was journalist's idol back at the time, to find out more about his life and to write an article about it. They live together for a couple of time during which the journalist finds out that the ex-sportsman has very rough character. There is flashback to the sportsman's childhood when he is telling the journalist how he waited until the last second for the train to come hear him, so he jumped off the railway-bridge in the river, while his friends stepped back from the railway quite earlier than him. At the end of the story, the old man concludes that since that moment he knew that nothing could kill him, or something like that. And that conclusion is going to be true, when he kills himself in a hospital unsatisfied with his life.
