3 children walking single file with great concentraion on a railway line

This movie was on TV when I was a kid and I remember being mesmerised by the conversation of the girl (leading the walk) .  Guessing this film was shown in the mid 80's onwards.

These children were in some sort of crisis and were alone.  They are walking really carefully on a railway track.   Hoping that this would lead them to safety.

Its definitely not "Railway Children".  The film that I am trying to recall is not as cheery.  At least not from that small bit of film that I saw.

Sorry that is all I have got.

Any chance it is "Stand by Me" (1986)?

"Children are walking along the railway tracks in one scene"

Here is a railway track scene:

Problem is there are four of them, and there is no girl, but other than that it matches your description. Maybe you misremember some of the fine details?
I instantly thought of "Stand By me" too... But there's no girl indeed...

There are no children walking on the railway tracks in this movie. One of the tags to the question is 'war", and this is not a war movie.

"The Butterfly Effect" can be watched here:
