black and white film (40s/50s) American family go to beach youngest child cuts hair short and strict father makes children wear old fashioned bathing suits!?

My mother saw this film played on UK TV in the late 70s as a 'Sunday Afternoon Film'

she remembers it as being a comedy about an 'All American' family of a strict father, mother, 4-5 children and a tall slender house keeper.

the film is about them going to the beach and the father making the children wear old fashioned bathing costumes and one of the daughters cut her hair off.

Just a thought... However, there are more children than you state.

"Cheaper by the Dozen" (1950)

From TCM:  Ann is upset that Frank forbids them to wear bathing suits that reveal their knees.
