90s movie about a mother and a son

Date: It's almost certain that it was made before 2000. Probably a 90s movie.
Country of origin: Probably the U.S., Hungarian dubbing, Caucasian actors.
Genre: Drama.

There is a mother and her son. The son is 10-ish, the mother has a psychological issue that prevents her from leaving the confines of her home (agoraphobia?).
One day the boy deliberately falls into their swimming pool with his bike (red BMX?) and pretends to drown to draw her mother out.
She comes as far as the threshold of the house, but couldn't get herself to help, she cries there.
The boy climbs out of the pool, that is when the first time viewer discovers that it was a ruse.
It's not Pontiac Moon (1994).
