Sci-fi or horror movie about replaced humans

I remember very little from this movie. The threat, I think, was a kind of creature capable of taking over/replacing people.

At the end, the hero monologues that he wouldn't be able to trust anybody ever again because anyone could be a dupe, and that he would have to live on the run from now on.

It is probably from the 80s or very early 90s.

Not The Thing, The Hidden or any of the Body Snatchers

I know that you said it is not any of the Body Snatchers movies, but the 1993 Abel Ferrara movie "Body Snatchers" has a similar monologue/narration at the end. Quote from the movie's Wikipedia page:
'The ending of the film is an ambiguous one. Tim destroys the trucks filled with pods with the helicopter's rockets, while Marti confesses her profound hatred in a voice-over narration, thereby hinting at a loss of humanitarian quality. While they land on another base, the words of Marti's replaced stepmother earlier in the film can be heard, suggesting that the phenomenon may have already spread beyond the army base: "Where you gonna go, where you gonna run, where you gonna hide? Nowhere... 'cause there's no one like you left."'
It is indeed similar, but the timeframe is off. 1993 is too late.

I found a VERY good candidate: Annihilator (1986)
Having watched it on YouTube, I can now say it is indeed Annihilator.

An almost 30-year old quest ended!
