Hoodlums playing chicken get their just desserts

Movie from probably the 1960's about a family that is harassed by a gang of young men on the highway.  The gang eventually make a night-time chicken run on the family's car, but the man has gotten everyone out and left the car parked in front of a bridge with its headlights on.  The other driver does not realize until it is too late that the family car is not going to swerve.  He swerves at the last moment and his car goes into the ditch under the bridge.  I used to think this was in "Panic in Year Zero," but just watched it and that scene was not in it.

Thank you.  I would have sworn it was pre '65, but then, I remembered Dana Andrews as Ray Milland.
