80's family horror - ring fell between floorboards in cloak room, grandpa tries to drown self in bath tub

A family horror movie from the 80's. There's a ghost that won't "rest" until her ring is recovered. It fell between the floorboards in what I think was the cloakroom of a school. A kid breaks in there at night to try to retrieve the ring. Also, a man (the grandpa?) is always making insincere attempts to kill himself. He tries to drown himself in the bathtub. His cigarettes are floating in the water, and he notices he's ruined his watch and gets all mad about it.

In Lady in White (1988) the killer, a serial killer of girls, drops his class ring in the school cloakroom while in rthe act of murdering Melissa. The hero Frankie, when locked in the cloakroom as a prank, witnesses a ghostly re-enactment of the murder and finds the ring when he returns and opens a vent.

No grandpa trying to kill himself, and it's the ghost of the killer seeking the ring not the victim. Doesn't really sound like your movie but check it out -
